Indica or Sativa: 5 Strains that People are Unsure Of

When it comes to cannabis, there are a lot of terms and terminologies that most people don’t understand. Some of these terms play a vital role in purchasing your cannabis. In other words, if you want to buy the right cannabis strains as per your needs and preferences, you must know about certain key cannabis terms.

In this blog, we will shed light on the difference between Indica and Sativa, followed by 4 strains that people are most confused about in regards to what to expect as well as what classification they fall under.

Indica vs Sativa

When we talk about Indica strains, we’re talking about the ones that produce the most calming effects, the ones that encourage relaxation. These strains can be THC or CBD dominated, but if the effects are de-stressing, then they would fall under the umbrella of Indica.

Sativa strains are opposite to Indicas – it means that these strains are known for uplifting moods and energizing users. These strains are often consumed to heighten focus and get a boost before taking on a busy day.

Due to these differences (relaxing vs energizing), Indica strains are often referred to as nighttime strains while Sativa are the ones commonly used in daytime to improve performance.

There is also a third type – Hybrid strains, which combine the effects of indica and sativa.

Indica Strains

As we have just mentioned, indica strains are popular amongst those looking for a sedating or relaxing effect. They are often seeked after to treat insomnia, anxiety, pain, depression or ADD/ADHD.

These strains are originally from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Turkey and they have adapted to the harsh climate of the Hindu Kush mountain range. Indica cannabis plants are short, with chunky leaves and bushy greenery. They are fast growers and each plant produces  more buds than sativa plants.

Indica plants often have a higher CBD ratio but their THC content is not necessarily less than in Sativa strains.

Sativa Strains

Sativa strains are preferred by people that want to feel more productive or creative. Known for giving a “mind high”, choose a sativa plant if you need to be less lethargic.

Sativa strains are native from Africa, Southeast Asia and Central America. Plants are tall and thin with leaves that resemble fingers. They tend to take longer to mature than Indica strains. In general, Sativa plants have a lower CBD ratio but a higher one of THC.

5 Strains People Are Unsure Of

The following five are the strains that most people are unsure about whether they are Indica or Sativa.

Ansliger Demise

Is Anslinger Demise strain Indica or Sativa? Developed by Kineos Genetics, this strain is neither Indica or Sativa; it’s a hybrid and, as such, it provides a combination of effects based on how it is produced. Anslinger Demise is a potent, heavy-hitting cannabis strain with a THC ratio that ranges from 20% to 22% and no CBD content. It’s a complex cross of Amnesia Haze, 9lb Hammer and Bruce Banner.

The dominant terpenes in this strain are myrcene and caryophyllene, which contribute to its fruity and hashy flavor and scent. Many people choose it because it helps with sleep, eases pain and makes them feel calmer and more relaxed.

Gelato

Gelato is another example of a hybrid strain made by crossing Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies and Sunset Sherbet. It usually has equal parts of Indica and Sativa or it can be slightly Indica-dominant. Due to its balanced high and appealing flavor, Gelato is a popular choice for social use. As a hybrid, it combines both calming and energizing effects and offers users a balanced experience. Gelato is a THC-dominant strain and may be effective for pain and fatigue relief, insomnia and induce an euphoric feeling.

This one-of-a-kind hybrid is a native from Bay Area, California.

Acapulco Gold

Unlike the above mentioned strains, Acapulco Gold is a rare Sativa-dominant cannabis strain. As a Sativa, it’s a morning strain known for its invigorating effects. The moderately infused 18% THC adds to the experience with mild psychoactive effects that include uplifting mood, cerebral, energetic and alert.

Acapulco Gold motivates and energizes users. It’s a native from the Acapulco area in Mexico. Its dominant terpene is myrcene, which contributes to the coffee-like, honey and woody aroma and flavor that users find so seducing.

The body high aspects of this strain introduce a calming feeling, which balance out the stimulating elements of the powerful mental high. People consider it effective to ease stress, reduce fatigue and increase appetite.

OG Kush

Is OG Kush Indica or Sativa? Well, neither!

This strain also falls under the hybrid umbrella. This strain is produced by combining Lemon Thai, Chemdawg and Hindu Kush. It was initially cultivated in Florida and then went on to become one of the most preferred strains across the US. It’s an Indica-strong strain as most of these plants are 55% indica.

OG Kush contains about 18% of THC and also some CBD, making it mildly psychoactive. As with most hybrids, the effects are a balance between calming and energizing.

Considered a classic amongst cannabis strains, it has been around since the early 1990s. OG Kush is popular amongst users for offering an uplifting mental high combined with pain relief and physical relaxation.

Oreoz

Oreoz, also known as Oreos or Oreo cookies, is another cannabis strain that people are usually unsure to classify as Sativa or Indica. It’s a potent Indica-dominant hybrid made by crossing Cookies Cream with Secret Weapon. Oreoz is known for delivering a strong and long-lasting relaxing high and, due to its high potency, is definitely not a strain for those new to cannabis. Its THC content ranges from 22% to 23%. Consumers love it because it is said to relieve symptoms related to depression, appetite loss, depression and insomnia. The dominant terpenes in Oreoz  are caryophyllene, humulene, myrcen,e and limonene. They contribute to its taste and smell resembling tobacco, vanilla, coffee, nutty chocolate, diesel and pepper.
